A Swan Valley father from Perth has been revealed as the winner of $40 million Powerball jackpot — more than a week after the draw, after forgetting he had even purchased a ticket, as local media reports.
How the Mystery Winner Discovered the Life-Changing Ticket
The man bought a Slikpik 18 entry from Springs News in Bennett Springs just one hour before entries closed. The to-be-winner then carried the winning ticket in his pocket for over a week before finally checking it at the store.
People at Lotterywest confirmed that the “mystery millionaire” was in complete disbelief when staff broke the news. That evening, the family marked the life-changing moment rather casually, though, with a simple fish-and-chips dinner.
Plans for the Prize: Securing the Family’s Future
The winner told officials the prize will remain within the family, securing the financial future of his children and grandchildren. International travel, including business-class flights, is also high on the list.
Springs News owner Milan Vuletich described the sale as the biggest in the store’s history, far surpassing previous $1 million division-one wins.
The four-week jackpot run raised more than $6.7 million for Western Australian community programs. So far in 2025, WA has produced 21 division-one lottery winners who have collectively claimed over $74 million in prizes.
